Raul Garcia-Patron Sanchez
Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh
Research Interests:
Emulation of quantum circuits
Benchmarking quantum advantage
Quantum simulation
Quantum information with photonic systems
Quantum communication.
Native of Madrid, he holds an Engineer in Physics degree (2003) and PhD from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) (2007). He was postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2007-2010) and Max-Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (Alexander van Humboldt Fellow 2011-2013). He held a tenured position as FNRS Research Associate at Université Libre de Bruxelles from 2015 to 20219. Since 2020 he works as Senior Lecturer at the School of Informatics at University of Edinburgh. Raul Garcia-Patron Sanchez has background on quantum communication and quantum information on photonic systems. His recent research focus on the fundamental limitations that error impose to quantum computation and designing rigorous techniques to benchmark quantum advantage. He has published over 40 research articles in high impact journals, including Nature Physics, Nature Photonics, Review of Modern Physics, and 2 peer-reviewed talks at QIP, the main conference in quantum informatics. He currently sits in the editorial board of Quantum, an open-access and community-run journal, and has served in program committees of mayor conferences in quantum informatics, such as QIP and TQC. Before moving to the UK in 2020 he was board member of WIC an EE professional organization of the Benelux.
